When our daughter was in high school, she'd say things like, "You just don't understand...you're not in school anymore!"
I tried to explain to her something I felt was extremely important: I'm always in school.
If a day goes by and I haven't learned something new, then I consider that to be a wasted day.
Now, in all fairness, I do have a unique advantage. Because of the wide variety of groups I work with and the conferences I present at, I'm exposed to many different industries and professions.
And since I make it a point to familiarize myself with each and every one of them, I've learned at least a little bit about a lot of businesses. Plus, I regularly attend conferences and workshops as a participant for my own personal continuing education.
From the Comfort of Your Home...
Now, with the broad availability of webinars, streaming video, and online training programs, it's easier than ever to continue your learning without having to invest significantly in time, money, and travel.
For example, our membership programs include monthly expert interviews, so you can learn in your car or at the gym. Some of our higher-level memberships offer webinars on a variety of business, customer service, and leadership topics.
But it doesn't matter if you're looking for courses for your business or something for personal development; there are many options available online, and one of our favorites is Udemy.
As I'm writing this, over 11 million people have participated in a course catalog that boasts over 40,000 programs, and it's easy to get started!
How Does It Work?
Just visit the site and enter a topic of interest. There are courses in business, software, and marketing, as well as programs in music, photography, and language.
To give you an example of what's available, here's a screen shot of some of the courses I have in my Udemy library:
Some of the courses are completely free. The rest of them are priced between $20 and $50 with periodic sales and regular new-member discounts.
You can view the courses on your computer, laptop, tablet, or smartphone. There are native apps for iOS and Android. And you can even "sample" courses by viewing a couple of "chapters" to see if it's what you're really looking for.
This is a fantastic resource and one that's definitely worth exploring. Click here to see what the current new-member discount is!
